Courses and Workshops

Our aim is that you succeed with your chosen project. This is why we tailor our service to suit you, providing expert assistance every step of the way.

We try to accommodate your requirements when you book courses and can provide one-to-one tuition and guidance outside of classes.

We have classroom stock, and classroom machines for student use so there’s no need to bring along any materials unless you want to.

We also run craft clubs which are open to everyone.

Beginners Sewing Course

Our “Beginners Sewing Course” will teach you the ‘basics’ involved in sewing, This course is perfect for the complete beginner aiming for you to develop the confidence to work on projects on your own

Over the course you will learn how to work with a sewing machine (threading the machine, winding the bobbin, tension and different stitches), as well as common useful sewing techniques. We will work with you to create a different project each week for you to take home and show off – for example Bunting, a Tote Bag, Cushion Cover, Doorstop and Hanging Decorations

All materials are provided in the form of kits and we have modern sewing machines available for your use.

This course runs for 5 weeks in the evening from 6 till 8 and currently has a maximum of 6 students so you get plenty of individual attention along with an excellent social evening.

 

Beginners Dressmaking Course

Our “Beginners Dressmaking Course” will teach you the ‘basics’ involved in dressmaking, This course is perfect for the complete beginner or improver aiming to acquire knowledge and learn dressmaking techniques in order to work on projects independently
The course covers the basics involved in sewing, dressmaking and use of sewing machines.
How to read a pattern and choose the correct size
Cutting out fabric, the do’s and don’ts
Sewing garment seams and darts
How to finish seams with and without an overlocker
Working with interfacing (what to use and when)
Introducing a waistband / facing
How to insert an invisible zipper
Sewing a hook and bar / button fastening
How to hem a garment; machine hem and hand sewing techniques
It is not necessary to have any sewing or dressmaking experience on a sewing machine.
All materials are available in the shop at 10% discount and we have modern sewing machines available for your use.
This course runs for 6 weeks in an evening from 6 till 8 or 2 consecutive Saturdays from 10 till 4 and we book a maximum of 6 students so you get plenty of individual attention along with an excellent social evening. Alter

Beginners Lap Quilt
This is the course for learning the basic techniques of patchwork.
You will learn:-
How to use cutters, ruler and self healing board with safety in mind
How to layer a quilt, basic machine quilting and a method of binding the finished quilt.
How to make 3 different blocks, some of these can be completed at home.
Beginners Sampler Quilt
This course is for someone with sewing experience and the ability to complete some blocks at home.
You will learn the basic patchwork techniques, how to layer a quilt and a method of binding the completed quilt.
9 different blocks will be made with machine, hand sewing and appliqué.
